Where did we go? Cancun, Mexico
With a 4 hour flight from Newark Airport (EWR) and 20 minute ride from the Cancun airport (CUN) it’s the perfect location for a quick vacation. The one hour time difference from New York makes it easy to adapt when returning home.
This trip we booked using Cheap Caribbean since they give us a discount for being frequent travelers. They also arranged shared round trip transportation with Amstar. Although next time I would prefer the private transfer. With the shared ride you have to wait for the other passengers to fill up the bus and then they stop to drop them off at their resorts along the way. If you’re planning a short trip (like we did) pay the extra money and request round trip private transportation...you’ll thank me later! If time is not a concern shared transfers work just fine.
Where did we stay? Secrets The Vine Cancun
This was our second time at the Secrets the vine Cancun. The moment you walk through the doors the smell is amazing and you’re greeted with a welcome cocktail and a cold cloth. You say thank you and they say “It’s a Pleasure”!
This resort is an all-inclusive, adult only resort with designated smoking areas for those who smoke, and plenty of locations throughout the resort for photos!
Both times we stayed in the Preferred Club Junior Suite Ocean View. This room comes with butler service and preferred club access. See what's included below.
What’s included in your stay?
There’s butler service with texting options. This is new since they didn’t have this during our stay in 2018. Need fresh linens, sheets changed, turn down service? Text your butler!
All-inclusive everything. Throughout the resort there’s premium liquor being served. If Don Julio tequila is your drink, ask for it! They don’t keep it out and it’s included!
Preferred Club Room Comes With:
Private Pool with lunch area and close by rest rooms. You need a special key to access the pool since the doors won’t open without it.
Bungelow beds that don’t require reservations
Host takes drink orders and checks to see if you need a refill! There was also a pushed bar cart with peach Bellinis being served.
Tip the towel staff and they will hold a seat in your preferred spot for the duration of your stay! Most people tend to go for the front row since it’s easy to go for a refreshing dip when it gets too hot!
21st Floor has Private check-in section, continental breakfast, snacks, coffee, and cocktails.
In room iPads for ordering room service. There’s options for breakfast, lunch, and late night menu options. The mini bar is fully stocked with Pringle’s, peanut M&M’s, and different mini liquor bottle options.
All rooms have ocean views. They way the hotel is positioned there’s views of the ocean. The balconies are not private. There’s a see through partition so careful when walking out to check the views.
No annoying wristbands needed. Just be sure to remember your hotel room number for breakfast, dinner, and beach access.
No reservations required for restaurants. They’re 5 restaurants on the resort and a bar that turns into a nightclub after 11pm!
Safe Drinking Water?
The first thing everyone tells you when going to Mexico is DON’T DRINK THE WATER! At Secrets The Vine, there’s bottled Cristal water at every bar, in-room mini bar, and coffee stations are both equipped with numerous bottles. They even filter the ice used in the drinks. The restaurants also uses bottled water in the pitchers during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So it’s safe to drink the table water with ice!
What did I eat and drink?
For breakfast the Market Cafe offers omelets, vegetable juice and other breakfast options. In the mornings, we grabbed a bite here before heading to the pool.
The second night we ate at the Italian restaurant, Nebbiolot. I had the Shrimp appetizer and for the entree the Shrimp risotto which was tasty!
Barracuda Restaurant is the bar that’s located by the Preferred private pool and they offer various seafood and meatless options. I went with the garlic shrimp and snacked on nachos and guac. They had a station set up only for that day. It would be nice if they had this every day!
In the main lobby there’s a coffee station with the most amazing sweet deserts. I did well by resisting until the last day I tried a piece of a donut.
Days when we didn’t want to leave the room we ordered room service on the iPad and had it delivered right to our balcony.
What would I improve?
At the Preferred Pool Restaurant they should serve quick bites such as a nachos & guacamole cart, fresh fruit, etc. Our food took over 40 minutes for just a burger and a salad. It would’ve been nice to have soft music playing too!
At the restaurants their too pushy trying to sell the pricy bottle options. We had to tell the Server at Bluewater Grill “No Thank you!!” at least 5 times!
Aside from that I highly recommend this resort for a group getaway or couple retreat.
Stay tuned for my next post on how I packed my carry on and personal item.
